Studio Update | Art Drop | Merry Christmas 2022

December 30, 2022 by topimages@msn.com

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas! Thank-you everyone for your continued support this year! I am really looking forward to creating with you next year. I have a few things for you. As promised, I have an art drop in North Platte. The video is down below. If you are the one who finds this painting, please drop us a line in Facebook or send me an email, we would love to hear from you. For all of the out-of-town friends, here is a digital download for you. You are free to print one print from this file. Please don't reproduce it or copy it in any other way. For some awesome videos and information about a leading contemporary artist, continue reading.

We made an emergency trip to Michigan this week. Sadly, Allison's mom passed away on Monday. Grieving the loss of a loved one is never an easy process but even in death there is a sweetness in grace provided by our Lord. Losing a loved one during this time of year has led me to a deeper reflection of many things in my life and slowing down to experience life more fully is top of mind. When I think of slowing down my thoughts immediately go to Mako Fujimara.

Mako Fujimara is a leading contemporary artist whose process-driven refractive "slow art" has been described by David Brooks of New York Times as "a small rebellion against the quickening of time." His art has been featured widely in galleries and museums around the world and is curated by notable collections including; The Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, The Huntington Library, and the Tikotin Museum in Israel.

I have been wanting the Four Holy Gospels illustrated by Mako since it was released. I have decided that is what I am going to buy our family as a Christmas gift. We love any illuminated manuscript and finding one illustrated by a contemporary artist like Mako is a gift in itself. When it arrives, I will do an unboxing and quick video of it.

In the meantime, check out the video on Nihinga and the process Mako uses on many of his paintings. As a maker, experimenter and alchemist I will certainly be creating some paintings in this fashion down the road.
